June 2026 has turned out to be a red-letter month when it comes to electric 2-wheeler manufacturers in India hitting new milestones. While TVS Motor Co became the second e-2W OEM to achieve 1-million sales, a few days ago Ather Energy surpassed 700,000 retail sales and Greaves Electric Mobility went past 300,000 retail sales. Now, Bajaj Auto, currently ranked No. 2 after TVS in this vehicle segment, has gone past cumulative sales of 800,000 units, six-and-a-half years after it launched the Chetak.
As per the latest data on the Vahan portal, Bajaj Auto has delivered a total of 800,085 e-scooters since January 2020 till June 27, 2026. This makes it only the third electric 2W OEM to achieve the 800,000 e-2W retail sales after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Co, both of which have sold over 10 lakh e-2Ws.
As the retail sales data table above depicts, cumulative sales between FY2020 to FY2023 were 107,878 units or 13.5% of the 800,085 units sold to date. The bulk – 86% or 692,207 units – have come from CY2024 till the closing days of June 2026. Bajaj Auto, which also manufactures EVs for Yulu Bikes, India’s largest shared electric mobility player, is estimated to have supplied around 30,000 low-speed electric two-wheelers to Yulu. All Chetak and Yulu models roll out of Bajaj Auto’s Chakan and Akurdi plants which have a manufacturing capacity of 480,000 e-2Ws per annum.
While the Bajaj Chetak’s sales in the initial years were tepid mainly as a result of a nascent market and the company’s small EV-specific sales network, demand for the Chetak rose strongly in CY2024 when 201,166 units were delivered to customers, up 168% YoY (CY2023: 75,112 units), giving Bajaj Auto the No. 3 rank after Ola Electric (277,610 units) and TVS Motor Co (177,024 units). CY2025 saw the Bajaj numbers rise 39% YoY to 279,685 units, which made it the No. 2 e-2W OEM for the first time, behind market leader TVS (315,087 units) and ahead of Ather Energy (214,985 units).
The rapid rise in the Bajaj Chetak’s sales is reflected in its increasing e-2W market share. In CY2022, the Chetak (26,758 units) had a 4% share of all-India e-2W sales of 661,636 units. Bajaj Auto’s e-2W share entered double-digits for the first time in CY2024 when it accounted for 16%, and then increased it to 21% in CY2025. In the first six months of CY2026, with 211,356 units (January 1-June 27), it has a 22% e-2W market share and has already achieved 76% of its record CY2025 sales.
Halfway into CY2026, Bajaj Auto is 32,877 units behind TVS Motor Co (244,233 units) but ahead of Ather Energy (164,629 units), Hero Vida (101,996 units), Ola Electric (63,247 units) and Greaves Electric Mobility (41,803 units). Combined sales of these top six OEMs account for 827,264 units or 88% of the total 934,141 e-2Ws sold in CY2026 to date.
Having averaged monthly sales of over 35,000 units in the first six months of this year with robust 51% YoY growth, Bajaj Auto should cross the 300,000 annual sales by mid-August and then go on to surpass 400,000 sales by the end of CY2026. It will be achieving both these milestones for the first time in a calendar year.
