Hero sells millions with the splendor, TVS gains through scooters and Bajaj floats on exports

Sales performance for Hero, TVS and Bajaj for FY-2018 and comparative analysis of the same.

The two-wheeler segment has been on a consistent ride, the segment is all set to post record number for FY 2017-2018. The three major two-wheeler manufacturers - Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor sold a cumulative total of 13,400,574 units. 

For the fiscal ended March 31, 2018, the largest two-wheeler maker, Hero MotoCorp sold 730,473 units in March 2018, up 22.2 percent YoY (March 2017:120,522). In fiscal year 2017-18 it sold 6,664,240 units, up by 16.28 percent (FY2017:5,731,246). With the implementation of new safety regulations, it would be interesting to see how Hero is going to price its upcoming Xtreme 200R and the Xpulse 200.

While Bajaj Auto crossed the 3.3 million mark in FY2016-17, it fell short of the same by 149,402 units in FY2017-18. For March 2018, the company sold 158,987 units, up 4.98 percent in the domestic market. It saw growth of 4.64 percent due to increase in exports by 14 percent. While its domestic sale largely driven by the Pulsar brand. Bajaj recently launched its UG5 iteration of Pulsar 150, but sans ABS, so the sales of this top performer will be keenly followed in the coming years.

TVS posted 500,000 units more than the previous fiscal year with a growth of 17.81 percent. In March 2018, TVS sold 34,813 units more than in its previous month and 48,171 units more than the previous year for the same month. These figures were majorly driven by TVS’ scooter sales that were sold to more than a million customers in this fiscal year. TVS is looking to further boost these figures with the launch of TVS Ntorq and with the recently launched Apache 200.
