Japanese authorities examine certification discrepancies at Toyota HQ: Report

Japan's transport ministry has officiated an on-site examination at Toyota Motor's headquarters on Tuesday upon finding discrepancies in the company's applications to certify certain models, Reuters noted.

The fallout over vehicle certification tests arises from a safety test scandal at the company's Daihatsu compact car unit, and has spread to other Japanese automakers, the newswire noted.

Toyota is the only automaker to undergo an on-site inspection, Reuters further noted.

The Japanese Transport Ministry announced its inspection plans a day prior, when it said that Toyota, Mazda, Suzuki, Yamaha Motor, and Honda had submitted flawed or manipulated data when applying for vehicles, Reuters noted.
