Tata Motors Re-Enters South African Market with Four Models

Tata Motors has re-entered the South African passenger vehicle market for the first time since 2019. Tata Motors’ South Africa line-up for 2025 includes SUVs like the Harrier, Curvv and the Punch, and also the Tiago hatchback, which will serve as the entry point in the range.

These vehicles will be made in India and will be retailed in South Africa as full imports. Tata Motors has formed an alliance with Motus Holdings, which will be the official distributor for its passenger vehicles in the South African market.

Speaking at the launch, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “Our return to South Africa marks a significant milestone in Tata Motors’ global journey. We are excited to bring our new generation of vehicles—engineered with cutting-edge technology, uncompromising safety, and modern design—to a market that values safety, quality and innovation. With Motus as our preferred partner, we are confident in delivering a superior ownership experience that resonates with South African consumers and contributes meaningfully to the local economy.”

Addressing the gathering, Ockert Janse Van Rensburg, Group CEO, Motus Holdings, said, “We are proud to partner with Tata Motors in reintroducing their acclaimed passenger vehicle range to South Africa. Initially, there will be 40 Tata dealers in South Africa for retailing its passenger vehicle range. There are plans to expand this to 60 by 2026. The brand’s re-entry into the South African market will also help boost the local economy by facilitating job creation, skill development and other initiatives.
