TATA AutoComp and Skoda Group Form Joint Venture for Railway Components Manufacturing in India

TATA AutoComp Systems Limited and Skoda Group announced the formation of a joint venture to manufacture railway propulsion systems and components in India on July 9, 2025. The partnership targets the expanding Indian railway and mobility markets through local manufacturing of electrical equipment.
The joint venture will produce converters, drives, and auxiliary converters for medium high-speed trains, regional trains, metros, and light rail vehicles. Manufacturing operations will be established in India with a multi-million-euro investment expected to deliver economic and technological benefits to the region.
Strategic Market Expansion
The collaboration represents a diversification move for TATA AutoComp, which currently holds a position in the electric vehicle components market. The partnership will expand the company's capabilities in the railway and metro segment while supporting India's infrastructure development goals.
Skoda Group brings over 165 years of experience in public transport solutions to the partnership. The Czech Republic-based company manufactures low-floor trams, electric locomotives, suburban train units, metro sets, electric buses, and trolleybuses across European markets.
Leadership Perspectives
Arvind Goel, Vice-Chairman of TATA AutoComp, stated that the collaboration would enhance the company's presence in the Indian railway and metro sector through advanced electrical propulsion systems. The partnership builds on TATA AutoComp's existing technological capabilities in mobility solutions.
Petr Novotný, CEO and Chairman of Skoda Group, described the joint venture as a commitment to innovation and international collaboration. He noted that the partnership would bring proven European technology and expertise to India's growing rail infrastructure market.
Technical Capabilities and Market Position
The joint venture will leverage TATA AutoComp's experience in the Indian railway market, including contributions to the Vande Bharat train project. Skoda Group will provide technical expertise and support for manufacturing components that meet requirements for reliability, safety, efficiency, and environmental standards.
TATA AutoComp operates 68 manufacturing facilities across India and maintains international operations in North America, Latin America, Europe, and China. The company currently runs 10 joint ventures with international partners in the automotive component industry.

India's railway modernization efforts have created demand for advanced electrical propulsion systems and components. The partnership addresses this market opportunity by combining local manufacturing capabilities with European technology transfer.
The signing ceremony took place at Hotel Taj Mahal in New Delhi, with attendance from senior leadership of both organizations. The event was attended by Ing. Eva Kopecká, Head of the Commercial and Economic section at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi.
Skoda Group operates as a member of PPF Group, which maintains operations across 25 countries in sectors including financial services, telecommunications, media, e-commerce, real estate, biotechnology, and transportation. The company continues to invest in technology development for public transport systems globally.
