Ministry of Heavy Industries starts work on Automotive Mission Plan 2047
Sub-Committees formed under AMP 2047 to drive collaborative efforts among ministries, industry bodies, and academia for global competitiveness and sustainability in India’s automotive sector
The Ministry of Heavy Industries has initiated the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047), a long-term strategic roadmap designed to align with the Government of India’s ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ vision. The plan aims to build on the progress achieved through previous automotive missions and sets a forward-looking agenda to position India as a key player in the global automotive industry.
AMP 2047 focuses on innovation, sustainability, and enhanced global trade share in the automotive sector. The first meeting of the AMP 2047 Sub-Committees was recently held to outline key objectives and initiate discussions. During the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Hanif Qureshi, noted that the roadmap is grounded in specific targets and emphasizes the need for a collective approach that goes beyond individual technologies or companies.
The initiative involves coordination among multiple government ministries, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, DPIIT, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. It also brings together key industry bodies such as SIAM, ACMA, CII, and FICCI, along with academic institutions, research organizations, and testing agencies.
Seven Sub-Committees, comprising members from government, industry, and academia, have been formed to guide the plan, with targets set for 2030, 2037, and 2047. The initiative aims to integrate inputs from various stakeholders, including OEMs, component manufacturers, and users, to address sector-wide challenges such as evolving technologies and infrastructure development.
The Ministry, under the guidance of Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, has stated that further deliberations will be consolidated and presented to the Apex Committee chaired by Secretary Kamran Rizvi.
