Mercedes-Benz India Begins FY26 with Highest-Ever Q1 Sales
The launch of the GLS AMG Line adds to Mercedes-Benz’s SUV offerings and aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen its footprint in the full-size luxury segment.
Mercedes-Benz India kicked off the financial year 2025-26 with its best-ever first-quarter sales, retailing 4,238 units in the April-June, marking a 10% year-on-year growth. Strong Q1 sales were led by top-end luxury vehicles and BEV demand, reflecting an increasingly personalised buyer preference, as well as exceptional growth in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio.
Mercedes-Benz’s top-end luxury segment–comprising the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, EQS range, and AMG range of performance vehicles–grew by 20% in Q1. Notable performers included the Mercedes-Maybach Night Series, G 580 with EQ Technology, EQS SUV, and AMG G 63. Further, the company reported that the recently launched AMG GT 63 PRO has already sold out for the remainder of the year.
The company’s BEV sales surged 157% on year in Q1, with an increased penetration of 8% to total sales. Its lineup–spearheaded by the EQS SUV, EQS Maybach, and the G 580–saw record demand, with waiting periods now extending up to six months for some models.
The core luxury segment, which includes the C-Class, E-Class LWB, the GLC and GLE SUVs, remained a cornerstone of Mercedes-Benz’s India operations, contributing 60% to total sales and growing 10% during the quarter. The E-Class LWB continued to be the highest-selling luxury car in India, further boosted by the introduction of the E450 performance variant.
The entry luxury segment witnessed a marginal decline in sales in Q1, reflecting the pricing pressure in lower-end premium offerings.
"This strong sales performance is buoyed by the robust demand for our portfolio, particularly for the top-end luxury and BEV segments, highlighting a growing customer preference for exclusive luxury vehicles with hyper-personalisation and customisation,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
The record sales performance was achieved in April-June despite micro-economic challenges, including forex fluctuations, price hikes and market dynamics, including pricing challenges at the luxury entry segment, the company said in a statement.
Launch of GLS AMG Line
Adding to its momentum, Mercedes-Benz launched the GLS AMG Line, a dynamic and sportier version of its flagship full-size luxury SUV. Priced at Rs1.4 crore (GLS 450 AMG Line) and Rs1.43 crore (GLS 450d AMG Line) (ex-showroom), the new variant aims to reinforce the company’s stronghold in the large size luxury SUV category.
“Launch of the GLS AMG Line reiterates Mercedes-Benz’s focus on enriching the top-end luxury portfolio with new products,” said Iyer. “With AMG styling, the GLS becomes sporty and expressive in design, completely redefining the segment with space, performance and ride comfort, in the most commanding way.”
The GLS has been one of Mercedes-Benz’s top-selling SUVs in India, with 16,000+ units currently on Indian roads.
