Mahindra Thar Roxx, XUV 3XO and XUV400 ace Bharat NCAP crash test with 5-star rating

Leading SUV manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd’s latest models— the Thar ROXX, XUV 3XO, and XUV400 have each earned a 5-star rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat-NCAP).

The Thar ROXX is the first body-on-frame SUV to receive a 5-star Bharat-NCAP rating, scoring the highest points for any internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle tested under the programme. It achieved an outstanding 31.09 out of 32 for adult occupant protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 for child occupant protection (COP).

Mahindra's compact SUV, the XUV 3XO, also performed strongly, with scores of 29.36/32 in AOP and 43/49 in COP, underscoring the company’s commitment to producing the safest SUVs in the segment. Meanwhile, the electric XUV400 earned 30.377/32 in AOP and 43/49 in COP, strengthening its position as one of the safest electric vehicles currently available on Indian roads.

R Velusamy, President of Automotive Technology and Product Development at Mahindra & Mahindra said the 5-star Bharat-NCAP ratings for the Thar ROXX, XUV 3XO, and XUV400 reaffirm the company’s mission to create world-class SUVs that offer both outstanding performance and unmatched safety. “From pioneering the introduction of six airbags in 2011 to now leading the charge with multiple 5-star-rated vehicles, we continue to set new benchmarks for safety across all segments,” he said.

The Thar ROXX, a rugged body-on-frame SUV, is equipped with six airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). It is built for maximum occupant protection. Safety features include Seatbelt Reminder (SBR) as standard, along with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and a 360-degree surround-view system with Blind View Monitor. Additional safety technologies like the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Brake Locking Differential (BLD) enhance stability and driver control.

The XUV 3XO is built with high-strength steel and is equipped with 35 standard safety features, establishing it as one of the safest compact SUVs in the market. It includes six airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all seats, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree surround-view system with Blind View Monitor for improved visibility. Level 2 ADAS functionalities provide additional layers of protection. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and all-around disc brakes support enhanced control and stopping power.

The XUV400, Mahindra's first electric SUV, is equipped with essential safety features aimed at both driver and passenger protection. It includes six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and all-around disc brakes, complemented by a reverse camera with adaptive guidelines to assist with safer manoeuvres.
