Luminous Power Technologies Launches First Lithium-Ion Battery Assembly Line

Luminous Power Technologies has inaugurated its first lithium-ion battery assembly line at its Baddi facility in Himachal Pradesh. The new assembly line represents a significant expansion of the company's manufacturing capabilities and marks an important step in advancing energy storage solutions in India.

The facility features a production capacity of 500 MWh and incorporates robotic automation with precision manufacturing processes. The assembly line is designed to produce lithium-ion battery packs for multiple applications, including standalone battery systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and automotive applications for electric rickshaws.

Rajiv Ganju, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain at Luminous Power Technologies, stated that the facility strengthens the company's integrated manufacturing capabilities. The assembly line reflects the company's focus on precision manufacturing and localization to support India's energy requirements.

The manufacturing line can produce battery packs ranging from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh for single units, with system-level scalability extending to 1 MWh. This capacity range enables applications across residential, commercial, industrial, and electric mobility sectors. The facility includes digital traceability for each battery pack, aligning with Battery Aadhaar requirements for lifecycle tracking and regulatory compliance.

Ganesh Moorthi, Chief Technology Officer at Luminous Power Technologies, described the assembly line as the beginning of a long-term development in next-generation energy technologies. The facility combines automation with quality evaluation technologies and digital tracking systems to deliver products meeting safety, reliability, and performance standards.

The assembly line contributes to the company's sustainability objectives through its role in renewable energy storage and electric vehicle applications. The facility employs automation to improve manufacturing efficiency and supports circular economy practices through battery component recycling and reuse programs.

The facility is expected to generate employment opportunities in the region and contribute to local economic development. The assembly line supports Luminous Power Technologies' position in the energy solutions sector and India's transition toward cleaner energy systems.
