Ather Energy Posts ₹812.3 Crore Loss in FY25 Despite Higher Revenues
The electric two-wheeler firm’s annual revenue rose by nearly 29% to ₹2,255 crore, but rising input costs and operational expenses led to significant losses for the second consecutive year.
Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ather Energy reported a net loss of ₹812.3 crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2025, according to its audited financial statements. The company registered a revenue from operations of ₹2,255 crore in FY25, marking a significant increase from ₹1,753.8 crore in the previous year.
However, this growth in topline performance was overshadowed by a rise in total expenses, which climbed to ₹3,117.5 crore in FY25 from ₹2,674.2 crore in FY24. Key contributors to this increase were higher costs of materials consumed, employee benefits, finance costs, and depreciation expenses.
Including other income, Ather's total income stood at ₹2,305.2 crore, still insufficient to offset its growing expenses. The firm’s comprehensive loss for the year amounted to ₹816.9 crore, marginally better than the ₹1,062.3 crore reported in FY24. Notably, FY24's loss included an exceptional item of ₹174.6 crore, which if excluded, puts both years’ operating losses in closer range.
The company’s total assets increased to ₹2,100.6 crore by the end of FY25, compared to ₹1,913.5 crore in FY24, primarily due to higher investments in property, equipment, and inventories. Equity capital stood at ₹293 crore, while total equity declined slightly to ₹493 crore, indicating continued pressure on profitability.
Ather’s results highlight the continued capital intensity and financial strain in India's evolving EV market, even as demand for electric mobility solutions continues to grow.

Furthermore, Ather Energy is working on scaling its production capabilities and expanding its footprint in multiple cities across India, with plans to broaden its product range and improve its charging infrastructure. The company also seeks to contribute to the broader EV ecosystem by collaborating with local suppliers and fostering an ecosystem conducive to the growth of electric mobility.
