Narasipur Auto gears up for TVS Motor's global foray
New facility will manufacture under brackets for front forks while talks are underway with Gabriel Shock Absorbers to meet Suzuki's bike requirements.
The company is a single source for the two-wheeler’s under bracket needs. At present, it is supplying 90,000 units per month. Most machines are developed by the company in-house. The new 10,000 square-foot facility will have a daily capacity of 6,000 under brackets. Narayan said that it could pave the way for the manufacture of suspension components and sub-assemblies for four-wheelers. Narasipur is also in talks with some international purchase offices of global majors to supply precision machined components.
Similarly, discussions are underway with Gabriel Shock Absorbers to supply under brackets to Suzuki Motorcycles India. This is already being done from Narasipur’s Hyderabad plant through Escorts. This unit carries out machining operations for gearbox housings meant for the Mahindra Scorpio and Bolero. It also makes under brackets for Bajaj Auto through Endurance Systems in Aurangabad and to Yamaha through Escorts.
The company is now setting up a greenfield facility in Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. Located close to the existing plant, it will be one-and-a-half times larger and a dedicated plant for a utility vehicle maker to machine the new-generation gearbox. “Most of our customers would prefer us to be closer but the biggest impediment is availability of talent,” said Narayan.
Moving on, a prominent front fork and suspension parts maker in Japan has expressed interest in sourcing under brackets from the company and has visited the Bangalore unit. As for exports, Narasipur’s clients for under brackets include Piaggio in Italy through Escorts. It has also begun supplying to Kinetic for its new range of scooters.
