Tata Motors in talks with Shiniest Industries of Taiwan for interior fitments

Taiwan-based car interior and exterior fitment specialist Shiniest Industries is in talks with Tata Motors to supply its interior products as OEM fitment.

According to sources close to the development, Tata Motors has taken samples of dashboard holders that can hold personal tablet or tablet-sized smartphones on the dashboard.

The sources added that Rocky Yi-Ping Lin, managing director of Shiniest Industries, held discussions with Tata Motors officials during his recent visit to India in this connection. It is understood that Tata Motors has taken samples of Shiniest’s tablet holder model – DM-700V Dashboard Mount – for exploratory R&D work for OEM fitments in its cars. If the product passes through its R&D evaluation, then the company is expected to place huge orders to Shiniest, helping the Taiwan interior giant to open its account in India.

Shiniest is one among the interior and exterior product makers in Taiwan which have a wide supply network globally. It has more than 100 interior and exterior products and its portfolio include car mirrors, lights, wheel covers, shift knobs, pedal pads, internal gear locks and in-car laptop stand. It currently exports its products to the US, Europe and a few countries in the Asian region. Now the company, which exports products worth US$8 million each year, is exploring business in the Indian market. A majority of its product goes to after market segment.

In the Taiwan-promoted EMMA Expo 2014 held in Bangalore recently, the company’s booth attracted considerable interest from Indian OEMs and aftermarket players. Currently the company is in the process of appointing its channel partner in India to serve the aftermarket.  For OEMs in India, the company will supply directly.

The company has showcased its Low Tyre-Pressure Alert LED Cap (LED Cap) as its aftermarket product. The LED Cap can be fitted on the tyre valve steam to monitor tyre pressure at all times and also protect the tyre from abnormal wear and tear. The Light Emitting Diode (LED) on the cap will flash when tyre pressure falls 5psi to 9psi below the original pressure. It can be operated with Alkaline button cell. It supports all tyres with service pressure ranging from 20 to 130psi and is fit for usage with motorcycles, passenger cars, vans and commercial vehicles.

Another product which saw interest from showgoers included the On-Wheel Lighting and Image Animation System. This electronic system depicts stunning personalized images on the wheels while the vehicle is moving. The systems lets sers to create, design and update images on their personal computers and later they can be uploaded to have electronic display on running wheels.
