Tata Motors' new GDC to play critical role in future growth plans

Hi-tech Global Delivery Centre in Pune will help the company scale up operations across multiple locations and time zones.

Tata Motors today inaugurated its Global Delivery Centre’s (GDC) new facility in Pune at the ICC Devi Gaurav Technology Park.

Guenter Butschek, CEO and managing director, Tata Motors, inaugurated the hi-tech facility in the presence of senior management from Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rpver and other Tata Motors Group companies.

According to the company, GDC has been set up to streamline business processes and achieve cost optimisation goals through conceptualisation and deployment of shared services strategies for the Tata Motors Group.

The state-of-the-art facility, which is spread across 50,000 square feet, has been developed with an aim to scale up operations across multiple locations and time zones in 12-15 months, while also capitalising on Pune’s rich pool of ITES and automobile industry talent.

With operations primarily based out of Pune, GDC also has a footprint in Mumbai, Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Dharwad, Pantnagar and Sanand, supporting 12 Tata Motors Group companies including JLR, Tata Marcopolo, TAL, Tata Technologies, TML Drivelines and Tata Motors Finance.

Commenting on the occasion, C Ramakrishnan, Group chief financial officer, Tata Motors, said, “As part of continuing efforts to streamline our business processes, GDC is a critical function central to the business delivering SLA-based transaction services, transforming business processes and analysing transactional data to develop and deploy data models for better decision support. We are delighted to inaugurate the new state-of-the-art Global Delivery Center in Pune.”

It was in the year 2003 that Tata Motors first launched Shared Services with a finance function and expanded to GDC a decade later with a team of 120 personnel. Today, the team has grown to around 600 professionals, delivering to over 160 business processes. It has also filed 2 IPRs for unique process innovations. Over the past year, GDC has won several awards in the shared services domain in India as well as at international level. These include awards for customer service, process efficiency, entrepreneurship, and process innovation.
