ACMA Automechanika New Delhi buzzes with latest in aftermarket

The second edition of India’s sole automotive aftermarket trade fair – ACMA Automechanika New Delhi –  was inaugurated by Dr Rajan Katoch, secretary, Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Heavy Industry & Public Enterprises, government of India; Ramesh Suri, president, ACMA; Michael Johannes, vice-president, brand management, Automechanika, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH; Arvind Kapur, chairman, trade fair committee, ACMA; Vinnie Mehta, director-general, ACMA; and  other eminent dignitaries.

This year’s trade fair has over 400 exhibitors from 12 countries exhibiting a comprehensive range of products and services across over 16,000 square metres.

At the inauguration ceremony, talking about the partnership between ACMA and Messe Frankfurt, Arvind Kapur said: “ACMA is delighted to partner with Messe Frankfurt in organising this premium trade fair for the aftermarket. As against the last edition in 2013, which saw the fair spread across 8,000 square metres, this year’s edition has doubled its area to 16,000 square metres. The Indian car parc numbers stand at 28-30 million passenger vehicles and close to 105 million two- wheelers. As these vehicles are aging, the demand for aftermarket and servicing will surely go up. We expect that the automotive aftermarket industry is bound to grow in the range of 20-30 percent YoY.”

Detailing some important figures of the Indian automotive component industry, ACMA president Rmaesh Suri disclosed that “by 2020, the component industry will cross the turnover mark of US$ 100 billion mark as against the current US$ 35 billion. Of this, exports, which currently stand at close to US$10 billion, will go up to US$ 35 billion by 2020. With the new government in place, new projects are being cleared by the central government as reforms are now gathering some momentum. This has started pushing the market as conditions are improving month after month. One of the many challenges that the component industry today faces is that nearly 30 percent of the aftermarket is being serviced by the components that are sub-standard, which increases the risks on road. We need to address this challenge.”

“This is one of the best moments of my life. This makes me feel that we’ve taken the right decision. With industry majors as well as many new companies and country pavilions this year, there is a lot to discover and explore for trade visitors,” said Messe Frankfurt’s Michael Johannes in his speech.

Making his remarks, Dr Rajan Katoch said: “As I understand, the Automechanika in Germany and other parts of the world are used as a platform by the automotive industry officials for meeting and networking. I believe that we must also do that here. This is a good direction. The organisers are well placed through the partnership. I wish this trade fair all the success.”

The event will see a host of new product launches across speciality products, auto components and innovative aftermarket accessories by number of companies from India, and other countries such as Brazil, China, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Spain, Taiwan, UAE, USA and UK.
