Brandworks Targets $500 Million Automotive BU

Brandworks Technologies has set an ambitious target of building a $500 million automotive division within the next three years, marking a strategic shift from consumer electronics into automotive systems and EV-focused solutions.

Speaking to Autocar Professional on the sidelines of Automechanika 2026, Ishwar Kumhar, CEO and Co-Founder of Brandworks Technologies, outlined the company’s roadmap for automotive electronics, emphasising design-led manufacturing over pure contract EMS.

“Brandworks’ automotive division will be at half a billion dollars in three years from now,” Kumhar said.

The company has earmarked $4–5 million for its automotive expansion and has built a 35-member design team working on EV charging systems, motor controller units, battery management systems, and full-stack hardware platforms.

Kumhar noted that while automotive electronics involve longer gestation cycles compared to consumer electronics, the shift towards electrification, AI integration, and system-level sourcing creates a significant opportunity. With EV penetration in India currently at 6–7 percent, he believes the ecosystem is still in an early growth phase.

Importantly, Brandworks is entering the sector as OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers transition from component sourcing to system-level partnerships. According to Kumhar, this disruption enables new players with strong design capabilities to compete effectively.

“Component-only manufacturing will be highly competitive. You need to integrate systems with components and drive it,” he said.

In the full video conversation embedded below, Kumhar also discusses EV infrastructure, AI integration, and why automotive could become one of Brandworks’ largest business units over the next five years.
