Volvo Cars’ Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt in Time’s Best Inventions 2025 List
Volvo Cars’ multi-adaptive safety belt, which personalizes protection using real-time sensor data, lands on TIME’s Best Inventions 2025 list ahead of its debut in the EX60 EV.
Volvo Cars' multi-adaptive safety belt has been recognized in TIME's Best Inventions 2025 list, which was revealed on October 9 and features 300 innovations. The safety feature is scheduled to debut in Volvo's upcoming fully electric EX60 SUV. This is the second consecutive year that Volvo Cars has been included on TIME's annual list.
The multi-adaptive safety belt uses real-time data from the vehicle's interior and exterior sensors to customize protection based on traffic conditions and the individual characteristics of the occupant. The system adjusts according to factors such as height, weight, body shape, and seating position.
The EX60 will have its global reveal on January 21, 2026 in Stockholm, Sweden.
In 2024, Volvo Cars received recognition for another safety innovation. The Driver Understanding System, available in the Volvo EX90 and ES90, uses real-time sensing technology to monitor driver conditions, including impairment, fatigue, and distraction levels, and can provide support when needed.
