Union Minister Inaugurates Electric Vehicle Zone at International Standards Conference in Delhi

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Electric Vehicle Zone at an exhibition accompanying the 89th General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission on September 15 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

The pavilion, organized by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, displays 31 production-ready electric vehicles from 14 original equipment manufacturers. The participating companies include Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, JSW MG Motor, Mercedes-Benz, Kia India, EKA Mobility, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Suzuki Motorcycle India, Piaggio, and Ather Energy.

During his visit, Goyal emphasized that sustainability serves as a pillar of growth in India and highlighted the importance of standards for developing countries. He stated that products designed and manufactured in India would gain global recognition for reliability, sustainability, and excellence. The minister noted that standards play a role in consumer protection, satisfaction, and global market competitiveness.

Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director of SIAM, expressed appreciation for the government's vision regarding "Design in India, Made in India" products. He indicated that the automotive industry looks forward to contributing to this direction while working on standards that safeguard consumers and enhance global competitiveness.

The IEC General Meeting 2025, hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, brings together over 2,000 experts from more than 100 countries to discuss international electrotechnical standards. The accompanying exhibition showcases developments in electric mobility, smart lighting, electronics, and IT manufacturing.

The event runs through September 19, with the EV Zone supporting India's Net Zero targets by 2070. Visitors can take a Digital Sustainability Pledge, with BIS planting a sapling for each pledge to promote environmental sustainability.

SIAM represents major vehicle and engine manufacturers in India and operates as a registered society with charitable objectives under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. The organization focuses on enhancing the automobile industry's contribution to economic growth and ensuring safety for vehicle users and the public.
