UltraTech Deploys 45 Electric Heavy-Duty Trucks for Clinker Transport in Northern India

UltraTech Cement Limited has begun deploying 45 electric heavy-duty trucks in collaboration with Energy In Motion (EIM), in what ranks among the largest such deployments in the cement industry in northern India. The trucks will transport clinker from UltraTech's Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan to its grinding units at Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works in the Delhi-NCR region, traversing a 250-kilometre route through Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Each truck in the fleet carries a 55-tonne payload capacity. Collectively, the fleet is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 8,900 tonnes annually, displacing the equivalent of approximately 2.9 million litres of diesel per year. The initiative adds to UltraTech's existing portfolio of more than 750 green trucks already in operation.

The deployment follows a transport service contract signed between UltraTech, EIM, and a logistics service provider. Company officials described the move as a step toward establishing the commercial viability of long-haul electric trucking in India, which aligns with the government's broader push to develop zero-emission commercial transportation infrastructure.

UltraTech has positioned itself as an early mover in sustainable logistics within the cement sector. The company introduced compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks in 2021, liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks in 2022, and electric trucks in 2024. As of the 2025–26 financial year, its green fleet comprises 638 CNG trucks, 32 LNG trucks, and 89 electric trucks across its various manufacturing units.

UltraTech Cement Limited is the cement flagship of the Aditya Birla Group and is recognised as the largest cement company globally by sales volume outside of China, with a total grey cement capacity of 205.5 million tonnes per annum. The company is a signatory to the Global Cement and Concrete Association's Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to its Net Zero Concrete roadmap.
