Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and Bengaluru-based Ohmium International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop green hydrogen-based power solutions for India. The collaboration aims to support India’s clean energy goals and establish scalable hydrogen systems for diverse sectors.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor will contribute technical expertise and fuel cell modules, while Ohmium will manage design, development, and performance evaluation of the microgrid solutions. The two companies aim to create commercial solutions that align with India’s long-term plans to achieve energy independence and net-zero emissions.
The MoU outlines the companies’ plan to create integrated green hydrogen solutions, leveraging Ohmium’s expertise in proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers and Toyota’s experience in fuel cell technology. The solutions under development will focus on power generation for microgrids and other off-grid applications.
This collaboration supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which was introduced in 2023 to boost local hydrogen production and innovation. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been active in India’s hydrogen sector, conducting pilot projects and trials with its fuel cell electric vehicles and collaborating with public and private organizations.
Commenting on the partnership, representatives from Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Ohmium noted that the project will help advance scalable hydrogen solutions for local needs. Senior officials from the Government of India also acknowledged the initiative and emphasized its relevance to the national renewable energy and self-reliance goals.
The collaboration is part of Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s larger sustainability strategy, which also includes hybrid-electric and alternative fuel vehicles tailored for the Indian market.
