Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Camdir Toyota Establish T-TEP and STAR Scholarship Program at ITI Roing

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), in collaboration with Camdir Toyota and the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has launched the 68th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) and the STAR Scholarship initiative at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Roing. These programs are designed to provide technical training and financial assistance to students pursuing careers in the automotive sector.

The newly established T-TEP facility was officially inaugurated by Nyato Dukam, Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. He encouraged students to make full use of the facility and highlighted its potential to improve vocational education outcomes in the state. Other attendees included Commissioner of Skill Development Saugat Biswas, Deputy Commissioner Smti. Soumya Saurabh, Director of SDE Sibo Passing, Superintendent of Police Ringu Ngupok, Principal of ITI Roing R C Dutta, and Country Head of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Vikram Gulati.

T-TEP is a one-year program that integrates classroom learning with on-the-job training at Toyota dealerships. At ITI Roing, the program will focus on the General Technician Category, catering specifically to students in the Mechanic Motor Vehicle and Diesel Mechanic trades.

The STAR Scholarship initiative, introduced under T-TEP, aims to support students from economically weaker backgrounds by offering up to ₹51,000 annually. The scholarship is intended to cover hostel fees, study materials, and other educational expenses.

ITI Roing, established in 1971, is the oldest technical institute in Arunachal Pradesh. With the addition of T-TEP and STAR, the institute is expected to enhance its training capacity and industry relevance. Camdir Toyota is also contributing to both initiatives, supporting the infrastructure and scholarship components.

The workshop at Roing has been refurbished with updated facilities, including simulators and components for hands-on training, and also features Toyota’s latest hybrid vehicle technology. The first batch of the program includes 20 students and is supported by two instructors. Three students have been selected as STAR Scholars based on merit.

Commissioner Saugat Biswas mentioned the state’s intent to expand similar programs to other ITIs and noted ongoing collaborations with companies such as Tata, L&T, Honda, and NHPC. Plans are also underway to send faculty and principals from various ITIs to Toyota’s plant in Bangalore for further capacity building.

Speaking at the event, Vikram Gulati stated that TKM’s efforts are focused on preparing students for future opportunities in the automotive industry through practical and inclusive training. Teli Tada, Dealership Principal of Camdir Toyota, added that the program aims to create employment pathways for youth in the North-East region.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor continues to support national initiatives like ‘Skill India’ and ‘Make in India’ by strengthening industry-academia partnerships and promoting skill development across the country.
