Toyota Fortuner and Legender Achieve 3-Lakh Cumulative Sales in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced on Monday that its Fortuner and Legender SUVs have achieved cumulative sales of 3-lakh units in India. The milestone was reached across both models, with the Fortuner launching in 2009 and the Legender introduced in 2021. The announcement was made from Bengaluru by the Japanese automaker's Indian subsidiary.

The Toyota Fortuner has maintained its position in India's premium SUV segment since its debut sixteen years ago. The vehicle features a 2.8L diesel engine producing 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque, combined with ladder-frame architecture and 4x4 capabilities for off-road performance.

The Legender variant, launched in 2021, targets urban drivers with additional luxury features. The model includes dual-tone styling, sequential LED turn indicators, wireless charging capability, and an 11-speaker JBL audio system while retaining the 4x4 capabilities of the Fortuner platform.

Both models are manufactured at TKM's first plant in Bidadi, which has an installed production capacity of up to 1,32,000 units annually. The facility produces the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender for the Indian market.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the passionate Fortuner and Legender fan base in India for their unwavering trust in our brand as we celebrate the remarkable 3-lakh milestone of our most admired SUV," said Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

"The Fortuner and Legender remains a top choice among SUV enthusiasts who seek a perfect blend of luxury, performance, and reliability. Whether navigating city streets or tackling challenging terrains, it offers premium feel paired with robust strength. Built on the solid foundation of Toyota's renowned QDR (Quality, Durability and Reliability) philosophy -- the Fortuner and Legender embodies the core value that define our engineering and manufacturing excellence. These principles are central to Toyota's global reputation for delivering vehicles that not only last but perform consistently and retain their value over time, thus bringing mass happiness to all."

TKM supports its vehicle sales through the T CARE service ecosystem, which covers the complete ownership lifecycle. The program includes T DELIVER, T GLOSS, T ASSIST, T SAATH, T SECURE, T CHOICE, T INSPECT, and T SMILE services for pre-sales, after-sales, and repurchase activities.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates as a joint venture with 89 percent equity participation from Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan and 11 percent from Kirloskar Systems Limited of India. The company employs over 6,500 people across approximately 432 acres of land area and maintains a total installed production capacity of up to 3,42,000 units across two manufacturing plants in Bidadi.

The company's second plant, operational since December 2010, produces the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux models with an installed capacity of up to 2,10,000 units. TKM also markets the Glanza, Rumion, and Urban Cruiser Taisor through partnerships, while importing the Vellfire and LC 300 as completely built units.
