Tesla Roadster Production-spec Version to be Unveiled on October 1

Tesla will unveil the production-spec version of its Roadster electric sports car on October 1, 2026, nearly nine years after the model was first shown in concept form.

The US-based EV maker announced the unveiling date through its official social media channels, along with teaser images showing elements of the car’s rear design.

Tesla revived the Roadster nameplate in November 2017, when it revealed the second-generation model as a concept. Production has since been delayed several times. Tesla CEO Elon Musk had most recently said the car would launch in April 2026, but that timeline passed without the production version being unveiled.

Tesla Roadster Teaser Reveals Rear Design and SpaceX Package

The teaser shows the Roadster with a large rear wing and full-width LED tail-lights. Four horizontally arranged nozzles are also visible at the rear.

The nozzles are part of Tesla’s proposed SpaceX option package. Musk has previously said the system is intended to improve the Roadster’s acceleration, top speed, braking and cornering performance.

Tesla has not yet detailed the changes made to the production version compared with the 2017 concept.

Tesla Roadster Specs : Range, Top Speed and 0-60 Acceleration

When the Roadster concept was unveiled in 2017, Tesla claimed a range of 620 miles (approximately 998km), a top speed of more than 250mph (over 402kph) and a 0-60mph (0-97kph) acceleration time of 1.9 seconds.

Musk has since claimed that the SpaceX package could reduce the 0-60mph time to 1.1 seconds. Tesla has not confirmed whether these figures will apply to the production-spec model.

The company is expected to provide updated specifications at the October 1 unveiling.

Tesla Roadster Launch Event and Reservation Price

The Roadster’s production timeline has been postponed multiple times since the concept was announced. Tesla is set to unveil the production-spec model at an event in Waco, Texas, with customers who have reserved the car invited to attend.

Tesla has been accepting reservations for the Roadster, with the reservation amount listed at £38,000. Musk said in November 2025 that production would begin in April 2026, but the company did not meet that timeline.
