Tesla Opens Bengaluru Experience Center, Launches Six-Seat Model Y L in India

Tesla opened an experience center in Whitefield, Bengaluru, on May 14, 2026, marking the company's entry into one of India's largest technology and commercial corridors. The facility, located on Whitefield Main Road in Mahadevapura, allows customers to view and test drive Tesla vehicles. The company also confirmed that after-sales service operations are now active in the area, extending ownership support to customers already based in the city.

The opening coincides with the India launch of the Model Y L, a three-row, six-seat variant of the Model Y, priced from ₹61.99 lakh. Positioned as a family vehicle, the Model Y L expands on the existing Model Y's two-row configuration by adding a third row, with Tesla saying the design prioritises headroom, legroom, and interior comfort across all seating positions. The vehicle offers a claimed range of 681 km on the WLTP cycle, a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 5.0 seconds, and a total cargo capacity of 2,539 litres when the rear rows are folded.

On safety, the Model Y L carries a five-star rating from ANCAP, the Australia and New Zealand safety assessment body. Both the Model Y L and the standard Model Y have received top scores from several other international organisations, including NHTSA and IIHS in the United States, Euro NCAP in Europe, and CIASI in China. Tesla has described the vehicles as setting benchmarks in safety, efficiency, and performance across global markets.

Charging infrastructure remains a key part of Tesla's ownership proposition in India. The Model Y L is compatible with Tesla's Supercharger network, which the company says can deliver up to 288 km of range in 15 minutes. Tesla also offers home charging support for buyers in India, positioning the combination as suitable for both daily commutes and longer intercity travel.

The Bengaluru center is Tesla's fourth retail location in India. The company currently operates experience centers in Mumbai's BKC district and Delhi's Aerocity, as well as a facility in Gurugram. Tesla entered the Indian market in 2025 with the standard Model Y, which has been among the world's best-selling vehicles between 2023 and 2025 according to the company, and has since been building out its retail, service, and charging infrastructure across major metros.

Whitefield's selection as the site for Tesla's latest center is notable. The area is home to a concentration of multinational technology firms and a sizable base of high-income professionals, making it one of the more commercially active micro-markets in India's south. The move reflects a broader pattern among premium and electric vehicle brands of targeting India's technology hubs as primary entry points, given the purchasing power and early-adopter profile of residents in these areas.

India's electric vehicle market has seen steady growth in recent years, though the premium segment — where Tesla competes — remains modest in volume relative to mass-market offerings. The government has also adjusted import duty structures for electric vehicles to encourage global manufacturers to enter or expand in the country, a factor that has contributed to Tesla's ability to price its vehicles more competitively than previously projected.
