Tesla Launches Three-day Switch and Save Carnival at its India Experience Centers

Tesla has launched a Switch and Save Carnival at its experience centers across India, running from 23 to 25 October, 11 AM to 8 PM. The company is offering Model Y ownership at an effective ₹19,990 a month with a ₹6 lakh down payment, aimed at buyers of mid-segment cars priced from ₹20 lakh.

Buyers can get exchange offers and finance through Tesla’s preferred banking partners on the premises, and each car bought during the Carnival comes with a complimentary Tesla Wall Connector.

Visitors can compare the Model Y and Model Y L at the centers.

Cost Breakdown

Tesla gave the following figures for the Model Y:

  • Down payment: ₹6,00,000
  • Monthly payment: from ₹39,990
  • Estimated monthly savings versus a petrol or diesel car on fuel and maintenance: ₹20,000
  • Effective monthly cost of ownership: ₹19,990

Tesla said the ₹39,990 monthly payment is in line with a well-equipped petrol SUV. It said the effective cost, after the estimated savings, is lower than what many mid-size petrol SUVs cost to run, excluding their purchase price.

The monthly payment is indicative and subject to financier approval. The EMI and down payment are based on a seven-year tenor and 8.5% APR under a step-up EMI plan. The savings estimate assumes a Model Y consumption of 14.3 kWh per 100 km, a comparison car at 8 km per litre, electricity at ₹7 per kWh and service at ₹2 per km.

Tesla said the Model Y needs near-zero maintenance and fewer workshop visits than a car with an internal combustion engine. It said the car needs no oil changes, spark plugs or multi-speed transmission service, and that regenerative braking reduces brake pad wear. Over-the-air updates add features without a dealer visit, it said.
