Tata Motors Ranks Second in October PV Registrations, Retains EV Lead
Tata records 73,002 passenger vehicle registrations during a month that included Navratri and Dussehra; EVs contribute nearly a fifth of its total.
Tata Motors ranked second in India’s passenger vehicle market in October 2026 with 73,002 registrations, ahead of Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India, according to VAHAN data shared by the company.
Maruti Suzuki led with 2,11,444 registrations. Mahindra took third place with 64,248 units, followed by Hyundai at 57,883 units. Tata finished 8,754 units ahead of Mahindra and 15,119 units ahead of Hyundai.

October included the Navratri and Dussehra buying period. Tata Motors had reported delivering more than 50,000 vehicles during Navratri, including over 10,000 on Dussehra alone. These company-reported deliveries are distinct from the monthly VAHAN registration figures.
As previously reported by Autocar Professional, Tata Motors operated on some Sundays to increase production and improve supplies to dealerships. The additional working days supported its efforts to meet festive demand and fulfil deliveries ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali in November.
Combined passenger vehicle registrations across the 14 manufacturers listed in the shared data reached 4,98,208 units, just 1,792 short of half a million. The table does not cover all manufacturers, and registration records remain subject to updates.
Tata also retained its lead in electric passenger vehicles, registering 14,552 units during October. Mahindra followed with 8,472 units, while JSW MG Motor India ranked third with 5,877 units.
EVs accounted for 19.9 percent of Tata’s passenger vehicle registrations, or nearly one in every five vehicles. Its electric vehicle tally exceeded Mahindra’s by 6,080 units.
Electric vehicles also widened Tata’s lead in the overall rankings. Excluding EVs, Tata recorded 58,450 registrations, retaining a narrower lead of 1,320 units over Hyundai and 2,674 units over Mahindra.
Tata accounted for 40.7 percent of the 35,777 electric passenger vehicle registrations across the manufacturers listed in the data. Mahindra’s share of this tally stood at 23.7 percent and JSW MG’s at 16.4 percent.
In the overall passenger vehicle rankings, Kia finished fifth with 30,657 registrations, followed by Toyota with 28,323 units. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India recorded 9,083 registrations and JSW MG posted 7,014 units.
The figures reflect VAHAN registrations as of 11 am on November 1 and are subject to revision. They represent vehicle registrations rather than manufacturers’ wholesale dispatches to dealers.
