October PV Registrations Approach Half a Million, Shows VAHAN Data

India’s passenger vehicle registrations approached half a million units in October 2026, with a VAHAN snapshot showing 4,98,208 registrations across 14 manufacturers during a month that included the Navratri and Dussehra buying period.

The tally stood just 1,792 units short of the five-lakh mark. The table, shared by Tata Motors, does not cover all manufacturers, and registration records remain subject to updates.

Maruti Suzuki led with 2,11,444 registrations, accounting for 42.4 percent of the combined volume listed. Tata Motors ranked second with 73,002 units, followed by Mahindra with 64,248 and Hyundai Motor India with 57,883.

Together, the four manufacturers recorded 4,06,577 registrations, representing 81.6 percent of the tally.

October’s registrations came as carmakers increased production to meet festive demand and prepare for Dhanteras and Diwali in November. As previously reported by Autocar Professional, Maruti Suzuki worked an additional production day in October, while Tata Motors operated on some Sundays to improve supplies to dealerships.

Kia ranked fifth in the passenger vehicle table with 30,657 registrations, followed by Toyota with 28,323 units. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India recorded 9,083 registrations, while JSW MG Motor India posted 7,014.

Honda registered 5,429 vehicles, Renault 3,491 and Nissan 3,257. VinFast recorded 2,565 registrations, followed by Stellantis with 1,077 and BYD with 735.

EVs Account for 7.2 Percent of Listed Registrations

Electric passenger vehicle registrations across the 10 manufacturers listed in the EV table totalled 35,777 units, equivalent to 7.2 percent of the combined passenger vehicle tally in the snapshot.

Tata Motors led with 14,552 EV registrations, followed by Mahindra with 8,472 and JSW MG Motor India with 5,877. Together, the three accounted for 80.8 percent of the listed electric passenger vehicle registrations.

VinFast ranked fourth with 2,565 units, followed by Kia with 1,386 and Maruti Suzuki with 1,188. Hyundai registered 753 EVs, BYD 735, Toyota 189 and Stellantis 60.

EVs contributed 19.9 percent of Tata Motors’ total registrations and 13.2 percent of Mahindra’s. For JSW MG Motor India, electric vehicles accounted for 83.8 percent of its monthly tally.

The figures reflect VAHAN registrations as of 11 am on November 1 and are subject to revision. They measure vehicle registrations rather than manufacturers’ wholesale dispatches to dealerships.
