Tata Motors Launches Sierra.ev at Rs 18.79 Lakh; Offers Over 500-Km Real-World Range, QWD
Electric SUV gets 63 kWh and 75 kWh battery options, up to 530 km of claimed real-world range, 5.8-second 0-100 kph acceleration and a lifetime battery warranty.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd on Tuesday launched the Sierra.ev at an introductory price of Rs 18.79 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai, expanding its electric SUV portfolio with a model that combines long range, Quad Wheel Drive capability and a technology-heavy cabin.
The Sierra.ev will be offered in Pure, Pure S, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered A personas.
The 63 kWh rear-wheel-drive version is priced at Rs 18.79 lakh for the Pure persona, Rs 19.99 lakh for Pure S, Rs 20.99 lakh for Adventure and Rs 22.79 lakh for Empowered. The larger 75 kWh rear-wheel-drive version starts at Rs 22.19 lakh for Adventure. The Empowered and Empowered A personas are priced at Rs 23.79 lakh and Rs 24.79 lakh, respectively.
Customers can add the Quad Wheel Drive system to the 75 kWh Empowered A version for Rs 1.2 lakh, taking its introductory price to Rs 25.99 lakh. A 7.2 kW AC fast charger is available for an additional Rs 49,000.
The launch comes after Tata Motors reintroduced the Sierra nameplate with an internal-combustion version in 2025. More than 40,000 units of the Sierra are already on Indian roads, and the company is increasing production to meet demand, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said.
Chandra said bookings for Tata Motors’ electric vehicles are now more than three times the level recorded a year ago, indicating that EV demand is moving beyond early adopters.
“The mainstream customer has arrived, and this shift is already visible,” he said.
Sierra Competition
The Tata Sierra.ev will compete primarily with the Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta Electric in the Indian market. Its lower and mid variants will also rival the MG ZS EV and MG Windsor EV Pro, while the top-end versions could overlap with the larger Mahindra XEV 9e on price.
Within Tata Motors’ own portfolio, the Sierra.ev will be positioned above the Curvv.ev and alongside the Harrier.ev, though the company is targeting a different set of buyers with each model.
“If the Harrier EV celebrates achievement, the Sierra EV celebrates possibilities,” Kulkarni said.
He said the Sierra.ev was developed for customers seeking one vehicle for city commuting, family journeys, chauffeur-driven use and off-road travel. “This is not about range or performance. This is range and performance. This is not about charging speed or battery size. It is charging speed with battery size,” he said.
Two Battery Options
The Sierra.ev is offered with 63 kWh and 75 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs. Tata Motors claims a class-leading energy density of 141 Wh per kg.
The company said its decision to use LFP chemistry was based on the safety, durability and long-term value required for Indian conditions. The technology has been used across more than 300,000 Tata electric vehicles that have collectively covered over 15 billion kilometres.
The 75 kWh version has a claimed MIDC range of 665 km and a C75 real-world range of 510–530 km. The 63 kWh version has an MIDC range of 565 km and a C75 range of 440–460 km.
Tata Motors said the real-world figures place the Sierra.ev among the top quartile of electric vehicles globally for usable driving range.
“Confidence doesn’t come only from laboratory numbers. It comes from the distance that you can genuinely achieve each day,” Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer and Head of HV Programs at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said.
Using a 120 kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in around 26 minutes. Peak charging rates of 1.6C allow the 75 kWh version to add up to 263 km of MIDC range in 15 minutes. The 63 kWh version can add up to 238 km over the same period.
The SUV also supports 7.2 kW and 3.3 kW AC charging. An illuminated charging ring uses different colours to display the initiation, charging, completion and fault status.
Its Vehicle-to-Load function can supply external equipment with up to 3.3 kW of power, while Vehicle-to-Vehicle charging can transfer power at up to 5 kW.
Tata Motors is offering a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty on the Sierra.ev. The company defines lifetime as 15 years from the vehicle’s first registration date. The warranty is subject to ownership and registration conditions and becomes void if the vehicle is sold or transferred to a third party.
Dual-motor QWD system
The Sierra.ev is based on Tata Motors’ acti.ev+ electric architecture, which integrates the chassis, powertrain, electrical and electronic systems, software and cloud functions.
Its Quad Wheel Drive version combines a 175 kW rear permanent-magnet motor producing up to 340 Nm with a 103 kW front induction motor delivering 164 Nm.
The dual-motor system produces combined peak torque of 504 Nm and allows the vehicle to accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 5.8 seconds in Boost Mode.
Kulkarni said the Sierra.ev builds acceleration earlier, sustains stronger longitudinal forces and offers sharper accelerator response across the speed range. Tata Motors claims the Sierra.ev is the quickest Indian electric vehicle to date.
The SUV gets six terrain modes—Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud Ruts/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom. It also offers 205 mm of ground clearance, more than 50 per cent restart gradability and an Off-Road Assist function that can maintain speeds as low as 5 kmph.
A 540-degree high-definition surround-view system includes a transparent mode that displays the area beneath the vehicle on the infotainment screen. Adaptive front and rear cameras are activated while turning to improve visibility around obstacles.
Space and Technology
The Sierra.ev has a 2,730 mm wheelbase and a five-seat cabin. It offers 973 mm of rear-seat legroom, a flat rear floor, a 622-litre boot and an additional 55-litre front storage compartment. Boot capacity increases to 1,257 litres with the rear seats folded. A gesture-controlled powered tailgate is also available.
The Horizon View triple-screen setup consists of a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Tata Motors said the cabin has been divided into separate digital zones for the driver and front passenger, along with a shared “Together Zone” for entertainment and connected functions.
The Theatre Pro entertainment system includes a 12-speaker JBL Black audio system, a SonicShaft soundbar and Dolby Atmos. Tata Motors said the Sierra.ev is the first vehicle in India to support Dolby Atmos through Apple CarPlay.
The Arcade.ev suite provides access to more than 30 applications for gaming, streaming and internet browsing.
The Sierra.ev also offers AirConsole, which converts the infotainment display into a multiplayer gaming screen while occupants use their smartphones as controllers. Passengers can use the feature while travelling, while the driver can participate when the vehicle is stationary.
Other equipment includes a panoramic sunroof measuring 1,525 mm by 925 mm, powered and ventilated front seats, a thigh-support extender and an augmented-reality head-up display.
The cabin also gets a PM2.5 filtration system and an integrated ioniser designed to reduce airborne particles, volatile organic compounds and other contaminants.
Features Standard from Base Version
Tata Motors said several features will be standard from the entry-level Pure persona.
These include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, UltraGlide suspension with frequency-dependent damping, 18-inch alloy wheels, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, rear sunblinds and all-wheel disc brakes.
The SUV also gets six airbags, bi-LED automatic projector headlamps, rear AC vents, a rear wiper and washer, automatic climate control and a rear-view camera with park assist.
Two new exterior colours have been introduced. Nainital Rapids will be offered across the range, while Nainital Nocturne will be exclusive to Quad Wheel Drive versions.
Connected and Assisted Driving Features
The e-Valet parking suite offers 16 functions, including automatic parking, remote parking, vehicle summon and reverse assistance.
The SUV also gets Level 2+ advanced driver-assistance systems with 22 functions. Tata Motors said the system has been designed to intervene only when it detects a genuinely unsafe situation, rather than repeatedly alerting the driver.
The vehicle’s safety systems include autonomous emergency braking and the ability to reapply braking after an initial collision to reduce the severity of a secondary impact.
Following a crash, the vehicle can activate emergency SOS functions, keep the doors capable of being unlocked for rescue and isolate the high-voltage battery.
Production at Sanand
The Sierra.ev will be manufactured at Tata Motors’ Sanand 2 facility in Gujarat. The company operates a fungible production setup at the plant, which will manufacture both the electric and internal-combustion versions of the Sierra.
Kulkarni said the company had spent the past few months preparing the plant and its suppliers to meet the expected demand.
The Sierra.ev follows the launch of the internal-combustion Sierra in November 2025. The ICE version is priced from Rs 11.49 lakh.
