Tata Motors, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has launched a fleet of electric buses dedicated to workforce transportation at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand. These buses are locally built, zero-emission vehicles equipped with advanced battery systems and modern features. Tata Motors’ wholly-owned subsidiary, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited (TSCMSL), will manage the workforce commute using Tata Ultra 9m electric buses.
The e-bus service is designed to provide safe, comfortable, and convenient travel while reducing the carbon footprint. It is expected to transport over 5,000 people and save approximately 1,100 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The fleet will be powered by electricity generated from a 16 MW solar energy plant, making the entire operation fully sustainable.
Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head – Operations, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, stated, “The introduction of electric buses for workforce transportation marks a significant step towards Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles’ goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. We remain committed to integrating sustainability across all our manufacturing facilities, covering sourcing, development, engineering, and operations. The launch in Pantnagar highlights the plant’s numerous sustainability achievements, including Zero Waste to Landfill certification and water-positive certification from CII-GBC.”
Powered by a full-electric drivetrain, the Tata Ultra EV 9m electric bus features smart technologies such as regenerative braking and Intelligent Transport Systems. This deployment builds on Tata Motors’ success in the electric mass mobility sector, where the company has already deployed over 3,100 electric buses across 10 cities. These buses have collectively covered more than 2.4 billion kilometers with an uptime exceeding 95%, demonstrating Tata Motors’ reliability and efficiency in electric mobility solutions.
