Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles unveiled its latest intercity bus chassis, the LPO 1822, on Tuesday, marking what the company describes as a significant advancement in long-haul passenger transport technology.
The platform is engineered with full-air suspension and low noise, vibration and harshness attributes to provide passengers and drivers with an improved travel experience.
The chassis offers flexible seating configurations ranging from 36 to 50-seaters, along with sleeper layout options. According to the company, these configurations are designed to accommodate the varying needs of fleet operators across India's transportation sector.
The LPO 1822 is powered by a 5.6-litre Cummins diesel engine producing 220 horsepower and 925 Newton-metres of torque. Tata Motors states that this powertrain balances performance with fuel efficiency. The chassis also serves as the foundation for the fully built Tata Magna Coach, a premium intercity bus variant.
A key feature accompanying the launch is a complimentary four-year subscription to Fleet Edge, Tata Motors' connected vehicle platform. The company states that Fleet Edge provides real-time diagnostics, predictive maintenance capabilities and data-driven fleet optimisation tools for operators.
Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, said the LPO 1822 addresses the evolving needs of India's intercity transport ecosystem. "India's intercity transport ecosystem is undergoing a transformation, driven by rising connectivity and growing passenger expectations," Anand S commented, adding that the vehicle combines ride quality, engineering and intelligent features.
Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles is part of the USD 180 billion Tata Group and operates a portfolio spanning 9 to 55-seater models across diesel, CNG, LNG and electric powertrains.
The company is supported by Sampoorna Seva 2.0, a lifecycle support program offering maintenance services, genuine spares and 24-hour breakdown assistance through a network of over 4,500 sales and service touchpoints nationwide.
The company is currently undergoing a name change to Tata Motors Limited and relisting process following a Composite Scheme of Arrangement approved by India's National Company Law Tribunal.
