Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, inaugurated its eighth Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Kolkata today, expanding its nationwide network of sustainable vehicle recycling centers. The new facility, named 'Re.Wi.Re — Recycle with Respect,' has the capacity to dismantle 21,000 end-of-life vehicles annually across multiple vehicle categories.
The Kolkata scrapping center, operated by Tata Motors' partner Selladale Synergies India Pvt. Ltd, is designed to process passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers from all manufacturers. This marks the company's third Re.Wi.Re facility in eastern India, improving regional access for customers seeking environmentally responsible vehicle disposal options.
Snehasis Chakraborty, Hon'ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal, inaugurated the facility, calling it "a welcome step towards building a cleaner and more efficient future for our people." He noted the initiative would support the adoption of newer, safer energy-efficient vehicles while creating circular economy opportunities within the transport sector.
The Mayor of Kolkata and Hon'ble Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Firhad Hakim, who joined virtually, highlighted the facility's environmental benefits and job creation potential for the state.
Speaking at the inauguration, Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head — Trucks, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, said: "Tata Motors is committed to driving sustainable mobility solutions while fostering a circular economy. The fully digitalized facility features paperless operations with specialized dismantling processes for different vehicle types. It includes dedicated stations for safely dismantling components such as tires, batteries, fuel, oils, and other materials in compliance with India's vehicle scrappage policy.
Tata Motors' seven other Re.Wi.Re facilities are located in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, and Guwahati, creating a comprehensive national network for sustainable vehicle recycling.
