Tata Motors Delivers First Electric Prima E.55S Trucks to BillionE Mobility

Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has initiated deliveries of its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to BillionE Mobility, a fast-growing electric mobility-as-a-service provider. Alongside the handover, the company announced an additional order of 250 units, signalling expanding commercial demand for zero-emission heavy-duty trucks in India.

The fleet is scheduled for phased deployment across major freight corridors in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR, and Haryana. The trucks will primarily serve the long-haul transportation of steel, cement, and other industrial goods.

The handover ceremony was attended by Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Ltd.; Kartikey Hariyani, Founder of BillionE Mobility and ChargeZone; and Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd., along with senior leadership from both organisations.

BillionE Mobility's leadership cited a targeted acquisition pipeline of 1,500 heavy-duty electric vehicles over a six- to eighteen-month horizon. The company stated it has already accumulated over 3 million clean energy kilometres across its existing EV fleet of more than 125 trucks since commencing operations in 2024.

The Prima E.55S is built on Tata Motors' i-MoEV electric vehicle architecture. It is powered by a 450 kWh battery pack — described by the company as India's largest in-class — offering a stated range of up to 350 km per charge. The truck features a full-electric drivetrain with an integrated e-axle, regenerative braking, a 3-speed Auto Shift transmission, and dual-gun fast-charging capability.

Safety technologies include a Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Braking System, Cruise Control, and an optional Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

Tata Motors maintains a portfolio of alternative-fuel commercial vehicles spanning battery electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen internal combustion, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies. The company's service network comprises over 3,200 touchpoints nationwide, operating under its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 vehicle lifecycle programme.

Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, noted that the Prima E.55S was developed with a focus on duty-cycle performance, uptime, energy efficiency, and total cost of ownership — factors the company identified as essential for scaling electric trucking commercially.
