Tata Elxsi, a design and technology services provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with semiconductor solutions company Infineon Technologies to jointly develop ready-to-deploy electric vehicle (EV) systems for the Indian market.
The partnership will focus on integrating Infineon’s technologies into electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles. This initiative comes amid growing EV adoption in India, where overall sales grew by 25–30% in 2024, including a 28% increase in electric two- and three-wheeler segments.
Combining Tata Elxsi’s expertise in design, system integration, and validation with Infineon’s semiconductor technologies, the collaboration seeks to accelerate the availability of automotive-grade, cost-optimised, and safety-compliant EV subsystems. It will address safety requirements such as ASIL-D compliance in line with ISO 26262 functional safety standards.
As part of the agreement, Tata Elxsi will work on design, integration, and testing, while Infineon will offer early access to components including silicon carbide (SiC)-based devices, microcontrollers, and integrated circuits. The focus areas will include development of high-voltage inverters, scalable battery management systems, bi-directional onboard chargers, and thermal management systems.
These systems are intended for India’s evolving mobility segments and may also be adapted for future applications in areas like eVTOLs, off-highway vehicles, and energy infrastructure.
This initiative is aligned with the targets set by NITI Aayog, which aims for 80% electrification of two- and three-wheelers and 70% of commercial vehicles by 2030.
