Swaraj Tractors, a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., has produced its 25th lakh tractor at its manufacturing facility in Mohali, Punjab. The milestone was achieved three years after the company crossed the 20-lakh unit mark in 2022, highlighting steady growth in production over the past decade.
The brand, which began operations in 1974 with the launch of the Swaraj 724 — India’s first indigenously developed tractor — has maintained a consistent presence in the domestic tractor market. It reached its first 5-lakh production milestone in 2002 and has since grown fivefold in volume over 23 years.
Swaraj offers a range of tractors from 25 HP to 90 HP, including models such as the Swaraj 855, 735, 744, and the recently introduced Naya Swaraj series. The product lineup is designed to meet diverse farming needs across different terrains and operational scales.
Veejay Nakra, President of Farm Equipment Business at Mahindra & Mahindra, stated that the milestone reflects sustained farmer confidence in the brand. Gaganjot Singh, CEO of Swaraj Division, emphasized the company’s focus on affordability, reliability, and customer-centric innovation.
The Mohali plant continues to serve as a key manufacturing hub, supporting Swaraj’s distribution across India. The achievement underscores the brand’s long-standing role in India’s farm mechanization journey.
The company emphasises that most of its engineers come from farming backgrounds, embodying the philosophy that “when an engineer thinks like a farmer, he does not make a tractor… he makes… Mera Swaraj.” This ethos reinforces the company’s focus on producing reliable, fuel-efficient, and durable equipment.
Swaraj also produces a variety of farm machinery, such as harvesters and implements, designed to enhance productivity across diverse agricultural tasks.
Infrastructure-wise, Swaraj maintains in-house precision manufacturing capabilities—including a captive engine plant, heavy casting foundry, and assembly facilities—underscoring its vertical integration and manufacturing excellence.
