Sterling Tools Partners with China's Nanjing Haohang to Deploy Rider Safety Technology Across India

Sterling Tools Limited, an automotive components and technology company, has announced a Technology Collaboration Agreement (TCA) and Supply Agreement (SA) with Nanjing Haohang Technology Co., Ltd., a China-based developer of Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS) for two-wheelers. The arrangement designates Sterling Tools as the lead entity for local development, system adaptation, manufacturing, and sales of ARAS technology in India.

ARAS technology functions in a manner similar to the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) found in passenger cars, using sensors, software, and control systems to generate real-time alerts and support riders in identifying potential hazards. The systems tested by the two companies on Indian roads include Front Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Warning, and Wrong-Side Alert, with additional features under development.

The collaboration combines Nanjing Haohang's technology platform with Sterling Tools' presence in the Indian automotive supply chain. Under the terms of the agreement, Sterling Tools will adapt the systems to Indian road conditions and distribute them to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The company said the arrangement is intended to allow automakers to deploy production-ready safety systems at scale.

India's two-wheeler segment is among the largest in the world, and road safety in this category has been a longstanding concern. Two-wheeler riders account for a disproportionate share of road traffic fatalities in the country, a factor both companies cited as central to the rationale for the agreement.

Sterling Tools has been expanding its portfolio in next-generation automotive technologies, including EV power electronics, high-voltage DC contactors and relays, and rare-earth-magnet-free motor solutions, alongside ADAS. The ARAS agreement represents an extension of this strategy into two-wheeler safety systems. The company's subsidiary, Sterling E-Mobility Solutions Limited, focuses on EV powertrain and power electronics, while Sterling Tech-Mobility Ltd. (STML) is involved in electric vehicle components.

Nanjing Haohang is a joint venture between Haobo Electronic Technology (Nanjing) Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Chuhang Technology Co., Ltd., and positions itself as a system-level provider of ARAS solutions for global two-wheeler markets, covering motorcycles and electric two-wheelers.
