Sonalika Tractors is commemorating three decades of operations in India's agricultural machinery sector, marking a journey that began in 1996 in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
The company was founded by Shri LD Mittal, a former LIC professional, along with his sons Dr. A.S. Mittal and Dr. Deepak Mittal. What started as an agricultural implements business evolved into a tractor manufacturing enterprise now valued at $1.1 billion.
Currently, Sonalika holds the position of India's third-largest tractor manufacturer in the domestic market and ranks as the country's number one tractor export brand, a status it has maintained for seven consecutive years. The company accounts for approximately 30 percent of India's tractor exports and operates across more than 150 countries.
The manufacturer operates what it describes as the world's largest fully integrated tractor manufacturing facility, commissioned in 2017, capable of producing one tractor every two minutes. The company has expanded its initial production capacity from 50,000 units annually to 100,000 units, with plans to scale up to 300,000 tractors per year.
Sonalika's product portfolio includes over 2,000 models ranging from 20 to 120 horsepower, designed for various agricultural applications. The company manufactures critical components including engines, transmissions, and gearboxes in-house, a strategy implemented from 2011 onwards under Dr. A.S. Mittal's leadership.
The company entered the export market in 2004 and became the first Indian brand to export tractors to Europe in 2011. It currently maintains six assembly plants internationally and has established a market leadership position in over 15 countries within its addressable segments.
In terms of transparency initiatives, Sonalika became the first tractor company in India to publicly display tractor prices on its website in 2022, followed by service costs in 2025.
The company is listed among Fortune 500 India's compilation of the country's largest 500 companies and has developed a supplier ecosystem around its Hoshiarpur manufacturing base.
Looking ahead, Sonalika's leadership has outlined plans for digital transformation in farmer engagement, connected diagnostics, and expansion of its dealer and service network while maintaining its production capacity expansion targets.
