Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 launched, prices start from Rs 3.59 lakh

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 has been launched with prices ranging from Rs 3.59 lakh -  Rs 3.73 lakh. This places it above the Interceptor 650 which is priced between Rs 3.03 lakh - Rs 3.31 lakh and closer to the Super Meteor 650 which is priced between Rs 3.64 lakh - Rs 3.94 lakh.

Royal Enfield says the Shotgun is inspired by the custom bike building space, and as such it doesn’t fit into any conventional genre of motorcycling.

The Shotgun is based on the Super Meteor platform but with significant differences. The bike has different wheel sizes, with a 18-inch/17-inch front and rear combination vs the more traditional cruiser set up of 19-inch/16-inch on the Super Meteor. The Shotgun also has a taller seat, at 795mm vs the 740mm seat on the Super Meteor. It also has a different 13.8-litre fuel tank.

The Shotgun’s 648cc engine is largely the same and it produces the same 47hp and 52Nm as well. However, the engine cases are painted in gloss black on the Shotgun, which is a first for a Royal Enfield.

The bike seen here has a single seat, but it also comes with a rear seat. Customers can either install the rear seat or use the bike with just the rider seat and the rear rack on which luggage can be mounted.

Almost all the components on this bike are made out of metal, which has resulted in a hefty 240kg kerb weight. That makes it the second heaviest Indian motorcycle, second only to the 241kg Super Meteor. Suspension is by Showa while the braking is handled by a 320mm front disc and a large 300mm rear disc. Dual channel ABS is standard. The Shotgun is available in four colours - Sheetmetal Grey (Rs 3.59 lakh), Plasma Blue (Rs 3.70 lakh), Drill Green (Rs 3.70 lakh) and Stencil White (Rs 3.73 lakh)

All prices are ex-showroom, Chennai
