RIDEV, an electric mobility platform serving India's delivery and gig workforce, has opened its 16th hub in Chennai, taking its fleet to more than 12,000 electric two-wheelers. The company was founded in April 2024 with an initial fleet of 10 electric two-wheelers.
The new hub forms part of RIDEV's hub-based operating model, which combines electric two-wheeler rentals with services for high-usage riders. Its operations are supported by in-house technology for managing fleet deployment, hubs and rider activities.
RIDEV's rental offering includes battery swapping, servicing and maintenance, roadside assistance, insurance and standby electric vehicle support, which the company says are provided at no additional cost. The model is intended to give delivery and gig workers access to electric two-wheelers without the upfront cost of vehicle ownership.
The company also aims to address operational issues such as battery availability, vehicle repairs and downtime, which can affect the availability of vehicles for work. Its model places responsibility for several day-to-day vehicle-related requirements with the platform rather than individual riders.
As part of the Chennai hub launch, RIDEV will showcase its 12,000th electric two-wheeler. The company said it plans to continue expanding its fleet and hub network across key markets while developing its technology and operational infrastructure.
Manish Kumar Jain, founder and CEO of RIDEV, said the company's approach centres on providing access to vehicles for earning rather than requiring riders to own them, with maintenance, repairs and downtime forming part of the operational support it provides.
Hemant Kabra, founder and managing director of BGauss, attended the Chennai hub launch as chief guest.
