Renesas Expands India Presence, Signs MOUs to Support Startups and Semiconductor Talent Development
Renesas partners with MeitY to boost innovation through startup support and academic collaboration; inaugurates new offices in Bengaluru and Noida as part of its broader investment in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Renesas Electronics Corporation has expanded its presence in India by signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and inaugurating new office spaces in Bengaluru and Noida. The developments are part of the company’s long-term strategy to strengthen its role in India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.
The MOUs were signed under MeitY’s "Chips to Startup" (C2S) programme, a national initiative aimed at building capabilities in VLSI and embedded semiconductor systems. Renesas will support local startups by providing product development resources, including development boards and access to Altium Designer software. For academic institutions, the company plans to facilitate experiential learning through training, hardware kits, and cloud-based design tools.
The exchange of MOUs took place in the presence of Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw. Key representatives at the event included Malini Narayanamoorthi, Renesas India Country Manager and Vice President, MID Engineering, Analog & Connectivity Group; Rea Callender from Altium; and Hidetoshi Shibata, CEO of Renesas, who participated virtually.
Renesas views India as a strategic market and has set a target to generate over 10 percent of its global revenue from the country by 2030. The company has also announced plans to grow its India workforce to 1,000 by the end of 2025. Its recent collaborations include a semiconductor packaging project in Gujarat and an MOU with IIT Hyderabad.
As part of its expansion, Renesas has moved into new facilities in Bengaluru and Noida. The Bengaluru office, now its largest in India, houses about 500 team members, including engineers and teams from recently acquired firms Altium and Part Analytics. The Noida office is designed to support high-performance computing and automotive solutions, with a focus on R-Car SoC development.
These initiatives reflect Renesas’ approach to building stronger ties with India’s talent pool, supporting local innovation, and contributing to the broader goals of the Make in India initiative.
