Renault has unveiled the Bridger concept, a new B-segment SUV that will spearhead the company’s next phase of global growth, with India chosen as the first market for its launch. The model is expected to arrive by the end of 2027 and will subsequently be exported to other markets.
Speaking at Renault’s futuREady Day, CEO Fabrice Cambolive described the Bridger as a central pillar of Renault’s future competitiveness, highlighting the model’s importance not only for India but also for the company’s global portfolio.
Compact Footprint, Big on Practicality
Positioned in the sub-4 metre B-SUV segment, Cambolive indicated that the Bridger has been designed to balance compact exterior dimensions with strong interior space and practicality. The company says Bridger will offer 200 mm of ground clearance and 200 mm of rear knee room, along with a wide stance and a boot capacity of around 400 litres. This boot space is 10 litres more than the Syros, which currently has the largest boot in the segment. The SUV is expected to target the highly competitive compact SUV segment, where it will compete with products like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO etc.
Multiple Energy Options, Including EV
Based on Renault Groups' modular platform -RGMP, one of the defining elements of the Bridger will be its multi-energy platform, which Renault says will allow the SUV to be offered with a variety of powertrains. These will include internal combustion, hybrid as well as electric versions, with the company claiming the EV variant will deliver best-in-class efficiency. The strategy reflects Renault’s broader shift toward electrification while continuing to cater to markets where internal combustion engines will remain relevant for several years.
India First Approach
The Bridger will debut in India before being rolled out internationally, reinforcing the country’s strategic role in Renault’s future plans. Renault has identified India not only as a key growth market but also as a global hub for production and sourcing, which will support the export of models such as the Bridger to other regions.
Part of Broader Electrification Roadmap
The Bridger also aligns with Renault’s global electrification strategy. By 2030, the company aims to have:
-
100% of its European portfolio electrified (hybrid and EV)
-
50% of its global portfolio electrified
As part of this transition, Renault plans to introduce four new models in India by 2030, including electric vehicles and full hybrids. With the launch of the Duster this year and the Bridger expected by the end of 2027, Renault is signalling a renewed product push in India while using the market as a launchpad for its next generation of global vehicles.
