Renault Unveils Boreal SUV for International Markets with Brazil, Turkey Production
New C-segment SUV targets 17 Latin American countries and 54 other markets with high-tech features and 163 hp engine.
Renault has announced the launch of its new Boreal SUV, designed specifically for international markets outside Europe, with production scheduled to begin in late 2025 at facilities in Brazil and Turkey as part of the company's €3 billion investment plan to launch eight new vehicles globally.
The announcement marks the fourth launch in Renault's International Game Plan 2024-2027, which aims to double unit revenue per vehicle sold outside Europe compared to 2019 levels. The Boreal will be manufactured at the Curitiba site in Brazil for 17 Latin American countries and at the Bursa site in Turkey for 54 other markets, including Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Mediterranean countries.
"In October 2023, we presented our plan to strengthen Renault's global presence: the Renault International Gameplan. Relying on five strategic hubs - in Latin America, North Africa, Turkey, India and South Korea - we are investing €3 billion to launch eight new vehicles outside Europe, with a clear ambition: to double our sales per vehicle. And we're taking action!" said Fabrice Cambolive, CEO Renault Brand.
The company reported that sales outside Europe rose by 16.4% in the first half of 2025, boosted by the commercial success of Kardian and Koleos models.
Built on Renault Group's ultra-flexible modular platform, the Boreal measures 4.56 metres in length, 1.84 metres in width, and 1.65 metres in height, with a 2.70-metre wheelbase designed to maximize interior space. The SUV features a 586-litre boot capacity that expands to 1,770 litres with rear seats folded.
The vehicle comes equipped with up to 24 advanced driver assistance systems, including Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Lane-Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Warning, and level 2 driving assistance combining Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering Assist. The Boreal also features Hands-Free Parking technology with four cameras providing 360-degree panoramic view.
Technology highlights include dual 10-inch screens with OpenR Link multimedia system based on Google Automotive Services, offering native Google Maps integration, Google Assistant voice control, and access to over 100 apps through in-car Google Play. The system supports over-the-air updates for both infotainment and driving aids.
The Boreal features a Harman Kardon Premium sound system with 10 speakers, developed in partnership with Jean-Michel Jarre. The cabin includes customizable LED mood lighting in 48 colours and power front seats with position memory and driver massage function.
For the Latin American market, the Boreal will be powered by a 1.3 TCe turbocharged direct-injection engine available in petrol or Flex Fuel versions, producing up to 163 hp in the Flex Fuel variant and 156 hp in the petrol version. The engine delivers torque of up to 270 Nm and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.26 seconds, paired with a 6-speed automatic dual wet clutch EDC transmission.
The SUV includes the Multi-Sense system with five driving modes - Eco, Comfort, Sport, MySense, and a new Smart mode that automatically adapts vehicle settings using intelligent algorithms based on driving conditions.
"Much more than a new model, Boreal embodies our international ambition. Designed to meet the expectations of the most demanding customers, it will be produced in Curitiba and then in Bursa. The fourth launch in the Renault International Game Plan, Boreal marks a new stage in our move upmarket and reinforces our sales offensive in the C segment," said Ivan Segal, SVP Renault International Operations.
The Boreal deployment will begin in late 2025 in Brazil, followed by the rest of Latin America, Turkey and other markets from 2026. The vehicle is positioned to compete in the C-SUV segment where more than one in two vehicles sold is an SUV in target markets.
Renault sold 1,577,000 vehicles globally in 2024, with nearly 40% (560,000 vehicles) sold outside Europe.
