Renault to Launch Four New Models in India by 2030; Bridger Concept–Based SUV to Debut Here First

India will be the first market to receive the Bridger, Renault's answer to the Brezza and Nexon, with the production version designed and developed in the country.

Renault to Launch Four New Models in India by 2030; Bridger Concept–Based SUV to Debut Here First

Renault has unveiled the Bridger concept, a sub-4 metre SUV that will debut in India by the end of 2027 before being rolled out to other markets globally. The production version will be designed and developed in India and manufactured at the company's Chennai plant, which Renault now fully owns following its acquisition of Nissan's 51 percent stake in the facility last August.

"Bridger will be a key pillar of Renault's global competitiveness. It will be launched in India first and then supplied worldwide," said Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault brand.

The Bridger was presented as part of Renault's futuREady strategic framework, unveiled by Group CEO François Provost, which earmarks 14 models for international growth markets — India, South America and South Korea — alongside 22 models for Europe. India has been identified as a central pillar of this international push, with four new model launches planned for the country by 2030. "India is a key market in our international strategy," Cambolive said.

Autocar Professional was first to report that the Bridger-based SUV would be developed on a new multi-energy platform, enabling it to support petrol, CNG, hybrid and electric powertrains. Renault has since confirmed multiple energy options, with the company claiming the EV variant will deliver class-leading efficiency. Whether a full-hybrid option will also feature has not been announced.

On product specifics, Renault says the Bridger will measure under 4 metres but will not compromise on interior space, with a claimed boot capacity of around 400 litres and generous rear knee room. Cambolive described the concept as combining design with practicality and technology: "Bridger is designed to be loved. It brings people-first technology, it is electrified by passion and crafted for space."

The Bridger will be Renault's third SUV launch in India in the current product cycle, following the new-generation Duster earlier this year and the larger, three-row Bigster. In the sub-4 metre segment, it will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO, and will sit alongside the Kiger as Renault's second sub-4 metre offering in the country.

The decision to debut the Bridger in India before any other market also reflects the growing role of the country in Renault's product development. The vehicle will draw on the capabilities of the Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India (RNTBCI), now fully integrated into Renault following Nissan's exit. Renault is also expected to expand exports from India on the back of the new model, including supplies to left-hand-drive markets.

On the name, Sylvia dos Santos, Renault's head of naming strategy, said it derives from the word 'bridge' with the letters 'ER' appended — following the same convention as the Duster — and that it "opens a new page in our international offensive."

On electrification, Cambolive was direct: "By 2030, 100 percent of Renault's lineup in Europe will be electrified — hybrid and electric — while globally we expect 50 percent of our portfolio to be electrified." Hybrid technology is expected to serve markets where the transition to fully electric vehicles will take longer. "India will be an important pillar of our international development," he added.
