Range Rover Velar facelift design, features updates

The Velar facelift gets Land Rover’s new pixel LED highlights with a revised daytime running lamp signature. While not much has changed in profile, the Range Rover Velar facelift gets a redesigned rear bumper and tail-lights.

Inside, the Velar gets a redesigned dashboard that brings it in line with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The highlight is the new 11.4-inch touchscreen running Land Rover’s Pivi Pro system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Land Rover’s terrain response system, which was earlier accessed through a dial in the centre console, is now accessed through the touchscreen.

The centre console has a cleaner design with far fewer buttons than before and no longer has the secondary screen or dials for the HVAC controls. Replacing these is a new stowage space that houses the wireless charger. Furthemore, the rotary drive selector has also been replaced with a more conventional unit.

Range Rover Velar facelift powertrains

Under the hood, the Velar facelift gets a 250hp, 365Nm, 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 204hp, 430Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine – with a mild-hybrid system – and both are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol powertrain has a claimed top speed of 217kph and can do the 0-100kph run in 7.5 seconds (claimed), and the diesel powertrain has a claimed top speed of 210kph and the 0-100kph run in 8.3 seconds (claimed).

The Velar facelift has a water-wading depth of 580mm. It is also equipped with an air suspension that has an ‘Elegant Arrival’ mode, which reduces the ride height by 40mm when entering or exiting the SUV.

Range Rover Velar facelift rivals

The Range Rover Velar facelift rivals the Porsche Macan (Rs 88.06 lakh) and the Jaguar F-Pace (Rs 77.41 lakh). This makes the Velar facelift more expensive than its rivals.

Jaguar Land Rover sales

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) reported sales of 1,048 units and recorded a year-on-year growth of 102 percent in the first quarter of the financial year 2024. JLR also mentioned that the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Defender constitute 78 percent of its current order book. JLR also recorded a 137 percent year-on-year growth for its pre-owned cars division.
