Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma Meets Honda CEO; ₹1,200 Crore EV Production Planned at Tapukara Plant
The project involves an investment of about ₹1,200 crore and production is expected to begin later this year, according to an ANI report.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma met Takashi Nakajima, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, to discuss Honda’s electric vehicle plans in the state, with the company preparing to begin production of its first EV model at its Tapukara facility, according to a report by Asian News International.
According to ANI, the meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s Office and focused on Honda’s proposal to manufacture its first electric vehicle, the Honda 0 Alpha, at the company’s plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan. The project involves an investment of about ₹1,200 crore and production is expected to begin later this year.
ANI reported that the initiative aligns with the state government’s broader plans to expand industrial activity while promoting cleaner mobility technologies. The Tapukara facility is expected to serve as a key production hub for the company’s electric vehicles in India.
In a post on social media platform X, Sharma said the development was in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India for the World” vision. According to ANI, the Chief Minister said that Honda’s first EV model was unveiled during a meeting with the delegation of Honda Cars India at the Chief Minister’s Office.
ANI further reported that the project builds on discussions held during Sharma’s visit to Japan in September 2024, when the Rajasthan government invited Honda to invest in EV manufacturing in the state as part of preparations for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit.
Speaking about the investment, Sharma said he was “extremely delighted” that production of Honda’s first EV model would begin at the Tapukara plant with an investment of ₹1,200 crore. According to ANI, he added that the project is expected to support industrial growth in the state while generating employment opportunities for local youth.
ANI also reported that the initiative reflects the Rajasthan government’s efforts to attract global manufacturers and strengthen the state’s role in India’s evolving automotive and electric mobility ecosystem.
