Precision Wires India Receives BIS Certification for Copper Wire Rod Manufacturing
The Mumbai-listed wire manufacturer has obtained bureau certification for its Gujarat plant, with commercial production expected before the close of the current financial year.
Precision Wires India Limited announced that it has received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for the manufacture of Copper Wire Rods at its plant in Valvada, Valsad, Gujarat. The certification has been granted in accordance with IS 12444, the Indian standard governing the specification and quality requirements of copper wire rods used in electrical and industrial applications.
The company communicated this development to both BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited through a formal regulatory filing, as required under listing obligations. The intimation was signed by Deepika Pandey, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer, and digitally authenticated on the same date.
Commercial production and dispatch from the newly certified facility is expected to commence before the end of the current financial year, which closes on March 31, 2026. The timeline indicates that the company is in an advanced state of operational readiness at the Gujarat plant. The Copper Wire Rods produced at this facility will be used exclusively for captive consumption, meaning the output will be directed into the company's own downstream manufacturing processes rather than sold in the open market.
Precision Wires noted in its filing that while the BIS certification itself has been received, a copy of the formal certificate is still awaited from the Bureau. This is a procedural step and does not affect the validity of the certification already granted.
Precision Wires India Limited is a Mumbai-headquartered manufacturer primarily engaged in the production of enamelled copper winding wires, which are widely used in electric motors, transformers, generators, and other electrical equipment. The company's registered office is located in Prabhadevi, Mumbai, while its principal manufacturing works operate out of Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
BIS certification under IS 12444 is a conformity assessment mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards, a national body operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The standard sets out technical requirements for copper wire rods with respect to composition, mechanical properties, and surface finish, among other parameters. Compliance with this standard is increasingly relevant as domestic demand for quality copper inputs continues to grow alongside the expansion of India's power and electrical equipment sectors.
The establishment of in-house copper wire rod production capacity at Valvada is seen as a backward integration step for Precision Wires. By manufacturing a key raw material internally, the company could reduce its dependence on third-party suppliers, potentially lowering input costs and improving supply chain reliability. Copper wire rods are the primary raw material used in the production of enamelled winding wires, which form the core of Precision Wires' product portfolio.
The Valsad district in Gujarat, where the plant is located, has seen growing industrial activity in recent years, supported by infrastructure development and its proximity to major ports and logistics corridors along the western coast of India.
