Porsche Cayenne Electric to Debut in India on September 30

Porsche will officially debut the Cayenne Electric in India on September 30. The electric SUV was already launched in the Indian market last year, with prices starting at Rs 1.76 crore (ex-showroom). It will be available in two variants – Cayenne Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric.

The Cayenne Electric will sit at the top of Porsche’s expanding EV portfolio in India and will rival models such as the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron and Lotus Eletre.

Battery, Performance and Range

Both versions of the Cayenne Electric use a 113kWh battery pack and dual electric motors driving all four wheels. The standard Cayenne Electric produces 408hp and 835Nm, enabling a 0-100kph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 230kph. Porsche claims a range of up to 642km.

The range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric develops 1,156hp and 1,150Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of 260kph and a claimed range of 623km.

Both variants come with adaptive air suspension as standard, while rear-axle steering is available as an option.

Porsche claims the Cayenne Electric can recover energy at up to 600kW through regenerative braking, depending on factors such as speed, battery temperature and state of charge. The SUV can handle up to 97 percent of braking through its electric motors, according to Porsche.

The Cayenne Electric is also the first Porsche to offer an optional 11kW wireless charging system.

Exterior Design and Dimensions

The Cayenne Electric retains the familiar proportions and silhouette of the combustion-powered Cayenne, but features a redesigned front end. The conventional grille has been blanked off, while air vents on either side of the bumper help cool the battery and electrical components. Active aerodynamic vents are also integrated into the lower sections of the bumpers. The SUV gets gloss-black lower cladding and alloy wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches.

At the rear, the Cayenne Electric features a full-width LED light bar with illuminated Porsche lettering. The Turbo Electric gets a body-coloured skid plate, while the standard model uses a black finish.

At 4,985mm long, the electric Cayenne is 55mm longer than its ICE counterpart and has a 3,023mm wheelbase. It measures 1,980mm in width and 1,674mm in height. Porsche quotes a 90-litre frunk and a 781-litre boot, which expands to 1,588 litres with the powered rear seats folded.

Interior, Cabin Tech and Features

The Cayenne Electric gets a digital driver’s display along with a 14.5-inch curved infotainment touchscreen, marking the first Porsche model in India to feature this setup. Customers can also specify an optional 14.9-inch passenger display and an augmented-reality head-up display.

Other features include eight-way electrically adjustable front seats, with up to 18-way adjustment available as an option, four-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging. A 14-speaker Bose sound system is standard, while buyers can upgrade to a 20-speaker Harman Kardon setup.

The Porsche Cayenne Electric range starts at Rs 1.76 crore (ex-showroom) in India. The Turbo Electric sits higher in the range, with its pricing positioned accordingly.

The electric SUV will compete with the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron and Lotus Eletre in India, while its combination of high performance and long range gives it a distinct positioning in the luxury electric SUV segment.
