Pioneer to Begin Manufacturing In-Car Products in India

Pioneer Corporation announced plans to begin manufacturing in-car products in India starting in 2026, expanding its presence in one of Asia's fastest-growing automotive markets. The initiative follows the establishment of a research and development center in India in 2023.

The production will initially focus on Display Audio products for automakers and may later expand to include a broader range of in-car products for both factory installation and retail channels. Pioneer will work with local contractors to establish production operations.

"The shift to local production will enable us to better serve local automakers close to their home turf," said Shiro Yahara, President and CEO of Pioneer Corporation. "It is a significant step forward for Pioneer to become one of the key players in the fast-growing Indian auto industry."

The company aims to create an end-to-end value chain in India that includes business-to-business sales, research and development, manufacturing, and post-delivery support. Pioneer expects this approach will improve flexibility in product design, reduce delivery times, and enhance after-sales service.

Aniket Kulkarni, Managing Director of Pioneer India Electronics Private Ltd., noted that the company's commitment to India will strengthen with local production, allowing closer partnerships with automotive manufacturers.

Pioneer's expansion aligns with India's "Make in India" initiative, which encourages domestic manufacturing. The automotive industry in India has experienced substantial growth in recent years, making it an attractive market for global suppliers.

Founded in 1938 in Tokyo, Pioneer has long been known for its audio equipment and in-car entertainment systems. The company has been working to transform itself into a solutions provider under its corporate vision of "Creating the Future of Mobility Experiences."

The move represents part of Pioneer's global strategy that includes bringing in executives and industry veterans from outside Japan and establishing research and development facilities in India and Germany.
