Pioneer Opens R&D Center in Bengaluru to Develop Automotive and Mobility Technologies
The new center will focus on vision systems, ADAS, digital cockpits, AI platforms, and connected solutions, supporting OEMs, aftermarket needs, and India-specific developments for two-wheelers and passenger vehicles.
Pioneer India, a subsidiary of Japan-based Pioneer Corporation, has inaugurated its new Research & Development (R&D) Center in Bengaluru. This step marks a significant expansion of the company’s innovation and development capabilities in India, following its earlier announcement in 2023 about establishing a presence in the city.
The new facility will focus on the development of a broad range of automotive and mobility technologies. These include vision and sensing systems such as dash cameras, digital mirrors, and 360-degree vision, as well as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Additionally, the center will work on digital cockpit technologies, human-machine interfaces, cloud-connected infotainment systems, AI-based mobility data platforms, and connected solutions for two-wheelers—such as navigation, mobile integration, safety alerts, and emergency features.
Pioneer’s Bengaluru R&D center will serve various segments including OEMs, aftermarket products, fleet operators, and insurance providers. It will also focus on region-specific product development for Indian automotive manufacturers to help shorten development cycles.
Shiro Yahara, President and CEO of Pioneer Corporation, noted that India’s skilled workforce and evolving mobility ecosystem make it a key location for innovation. Siva Subramanian, CEO of Pioneer Mobility AI & Connectivity Company, added that the center will contribute to the development of both local and global products.
The facility includes labs for camera testing, embedded systems, software validation, and electronics, along with collaborative spaces designed to support cross-functional development. Pioneer India plans to scale up its engineering workforce in the coming months, with hiring underway in fields such as embedded software, computer vision, AI, and cloud connectivity.
Established in 2008, Pioneer India is known for its car entertainment and mobility products including stereos, speakers, subwoofers, and dash cameras. Alongside its R&D centers in Gurugram and Bengaluru, the company plans to begin local manufacturing of in-car products by 2026, aiming to establish a complete value chain within India.
