Ola Electric has commenced deliveries of its Shakti 9.1kWh residential battery energy storage system, marking the rollout of what the company describes as India's first locally designed and manufactured home battery solution.
The electric vehicle manufacturer began deliveries of the 6kW/9.1kWh configuration in Bengaluru on Saturday, with plans to expand distribution across India in coming months. The system is powered by 4680 Bharat Cells, a battery technology developed domestically.
The company also announced it has obtained Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its 3kW/5.2kWh variant, following earlier certification of the larger 9.1kWh model on January 15, 2026. Both configurations are now approved for manufacture and sale throughout India.
The smaller variant received mandatory BIS certification under IS 16242 (PART1): 2025 / IEC 62040-1: 2017 standards, which required testing for short-circuit protection, overload protection, electric shock protection, fire and thermal hazards, and environmental safety, among other criteria.
According to an Ola Electric spokesperson, the Shakti system represents a step toward energy self-reliance for Indian households, farms, and businesses through clean, decentralized power storage.
The battery storage system is positioned as an alternative to traditional lead-acid inverters and diesel generators. Key specifications include zero millisecond changeover time during power outages, operation across input voltage ranges of 170V-270V to protect against fluctuations, and IP67-rated batteries designed to withstand dust, water, and monsoon conditions.
The system requires no running or maintenance costs, according to the company, and can power air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication equipment. Backup capacity extends up to 1.5 hours under full load.
Ola Electric is offering two configurations: the 3kW/5.2kWh model priced at ₹1,49,999 and the 6kW/9.1kWh version at ₹2,49,999. Both are available for purchase through the company's website and retail stores across India.
The launch expands Ola Electric's product portfolio beyond electric vehicles. The company operates the Ola Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu for EV and component manufacturing, supported by its Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru. Research and development operations span facilities in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
