Oben Electric Introduces 8-Year Battery Protection Plan for Electric Motorcycles

Oben Electric announced today the launch of its 'Protect 8/80' battery protection plan, offering 8 years or 80,000 kilometers of comprehensive coverage for its Rorr EZ electric motorcycle at a cost of ₹9,999. The plan will be available starting May 1, 2025, to both existing and new customers.

The warranty covers all battery-related issues including repairs and replacements, with a guarantee that the motorcycle's top speed and acceleration will remain consistent throughout the warranty period. According to the company, the plan is fully transferable, enhancing the resale value of the Rorr EZ motorcycle.

Madhumita Agrawal, Founder and CEO of Oben Electric, stated that the plan reflects the company's confidence in its technology and commitment to customer satisfaction.

The protection plan is based on Oben's in-house Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology, which the company claims can withstand temperatures up to 50% higher than Li-NMC batteries commonly used in the industry. This feature makes it suitable for India's varied climate conditions.

The Rorr EZ motorcycle features a claimed range of 175 kilometers (IDC), acceleration from 0-40 km/h in 3.3 seconds, and a top speed of 95 km/h. The motorcycle is available at a starting price of ₹89,999 (ex-showroom).

Oben Electric, founded in August 2020 and headquartered in Bengaluru, designs and manufactures electric motorcycles with components developed in-house. The company holds over 21 patents for its proprietary technology and EV components.

The electric two-wheeler market in India has seen significant growth in recent years, with increasing government support for electric mobility through subsidies and charging infrastructure development. However, consumer concerns about battery longevity and performance retention have been persistent challenges for manufacturers.

Battery warranties have become a key differentiator in the competitive electric vehicle market, where manufacturers strive to address consumer anxieties about new technology adoption. With this long-duration warranty, Oben appears to be positioning itself as a confident player in the emerging electric motorcycle segment in India, which remains the world's largest motorcycle market.
