NueGo Trains Over 3,000 Drivers in Electric Bus Operations
India's largest intercity electric bus service implements comprehensive training program covering EV technology, safety protocols, and customer service skills.
NueGo, India's largest intercity electric bus service, has trained over 3,000 coach captains and 400 coach hosts through its specialized electric vehicle training program. The initiative, launched by GreenCell Mobility's intercity electric bus brand, addresses the skills gap in India's transition to electric mobility.
The company operates more than 300 electric buses connecting over 100 cities across India. Each bus can travel over 250 kilometers on a single charge and undergoes 25 safety inspections covering mechanical and electrical systems.
NueGo's training program spans one week for new recruits and includes classroom instruction, simulator-based learning, and practical driving experience. The curriculum consists of 11 modules, with eight focused on defensive driving techniques and three covering customer experience and vehicle familiarization.
The training covers technical aspects specific to electric buses, including regenerative braking, battery-efficient driving techniques, and charging infrastructure protocols. Safety training for high-voltage systems forms a core component, alongside customer service skills designed to enhance passenger experience.
Training centers operate at NueGo depots in Delhi, Indore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai, with in-house experts conducting the sessions. The company requires refresher training every three months, including practical assessments in blind spot awareness, reversing maneuvers, and parking techniques.
GreenCell Mobility, NueGo's parent company, was established by Eversource Capital, described as India's leading climate impact investor. The company positions itself as building an Electric Mobility-as-a-Service platform, focusing on shared transportation, charging infrastructure, and related products for the electric mobility sector.
The training program represents an approach to workforce development as India's transportation sector shifts toward electric vehicles. The initiative addresses both technical requirements of operating electric buses and service standards for intercity passenger transport.
NueGo buses feature air conditioning, passenger amenities, and the company operates lounges in select cities. The service emphasizes punctuality and safety as key operational parameters for its intercity routes.
